The Legal Secretariat of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs is responsible for providing legal advice to the political leadership, other units within the department, and Sweden's foreign missions. The Legal Secretariat is also responsible for drafting and reviewing legislative proposals and for preparing certain administrative matters. The unit supports the Chief Legal Officer, who is the head official of the Legal Secretariat, in developing the legal support in the department and participating in the legal quality assurance of the department's work. The work requires broad legal knowledge. It will be varied and independent while also involving a lot of collaboration with others, both within and outside the Government Offices.

The Legal Secretariat has about 20 employees. Most are lawyers working in two groups. You will work in the group primarily consisting of legal advisors responsible for legislative work and legal advice within the entire Foreign Service's area of responsibility. The other group in the unit is responsible for issues regarding transparency and confidentiality.

Your Background

We are looking for someone who is a court of appeal or administrative court assessor or has experience in qualified legal work that we assess as equivalent. You need to have very good legal knowledge. Experience in qualified legal work within the Government Offices, particularly the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, is meritorious. Experience from another government agency may also be meritorious.

You are a skilled lawyer and a quality- and results-oriented person who enjoys driving processes forward. You have good judgment and high integrity and can work independently towards set goals, sometimes under tight deadlines. Flexibility and the ability to quickly change focus are needed in our operations. You also need to be able to collaborate well with people at all levels and from different professional categories. You are constructive and pedagogical. Your language skills and stylistic ability are very good. We would also like you to have an interest in issues within the Ministry for Foreign Affairs' area of responsibility. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

Other Information

This announcement concerns one or more positions as legal advisors for up to six years, or alternatively a permanent position that begins with a six-month probationary period for those who are not on leave from the court. Start date as soon as possible or by agreement. The position is classified in a security class, and a security review with a background check will be conducted before a hiring decision is made. You must be a Swedish citizen but are welcome to have a foreign background. The workplace is primarily in Stockholm, but there may also be opportunities for remote work with regular travel to the office in Stockholm.
